According to Reuters, Delta Airlines wants the US government to put passengers on a national no-fly blacklist that would ban them from flying on any airline. In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, Delta Chief Executive Ed Bastian said the move ‘will help prevent future accidents and serve as a powerful symbol of the serious consequences of not complying with crew instructions.’In the past 13 months, there has been a significant increase in the number of incidents involving airline passengers. In November, Mr. Garland asked federal prosecutors to prioritize lawsuits involving in-flight fights and other violations by airline passengers.Delta said the U.S. government currently maintains a no-fly list as part of a terrorist watch list that allows the government to ban those who pose a threat to civil aviation from flights. In 2021, the FAA said it had zero tolerance for incidents and referred more than 36 passengers to the FBI for criminal prosecution.Nearly 1,900 passengers were put on Delta’s no-fly blacklist for not complying with the mask requirement, and more than 900 were referred to the Transportation Security Administration for civil prosecution, Bastian said.Mr. Bastian said Delta had called on other airlines to share their no-fly lists to ensure that individuals who had posed a security threat did not do so again on another airline.U.S. President Joe Biden was the justice Department’s response to an increasing number of violent incidents on airplanes.
